Kasese Aerodrome currently has a grass runway which suffers frequent floods from river Nyamuranga during rainy seasons.
The Government of Uganda directed the upgrade of the runway to tarmac surface with the objective of improving the aerodrome facilities to enable cross border traffic, tourism, and cargo transport by air. Previous studies and design of the aerodrome were carried out by the MoWHC and CAA in collaboration with Consulting Engineers and Planners.
However, the design did not completely satisfy planned and assigned conditions due to the close proximity of the railway line to the runway 02 threshold.
