The Kigumba to Masindi to Bulima project road forms part of the overall Kyenjojo – Hoima – Masindi – Kigumba road upgrade project The Kigumba – Bulima Project Road is a key strategic route in the region connecting international travel between countries to the southwestern part of Uganda. It also provides the main direct route between Hoima and Kampala-Gulu highway.
The terrain of the Kigumba – Bulima road is generally flat and was designed for a speed of 90 kph with the aim of considering minimum journey times through maximum speed and minimum horizontal and vertical curvature.
Upgrading the project road to bitumen standard Class II Paved is considered to be important, not only in terms of completing the national paved road circuit, but also in servicing and connecting the Albertine Oil Graben with the rest of the country including international transit to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Sudan which are of major importance in boosting economic development in the region
The project scope also entails upgrading of town roads in Masindi municipality and Kigumba town council and detailed design and construction supervision services for a market to be constructed in Kigumba town council at a location to be identified by the local authorities
- Design Review for the Main Road, Town Roads & Detailed Design of Market;
- Design Review entailed the review and verification of accuracy of the engineering design package including the following components; Geometric design, Pavement & Geotechnical design, Topographical survey, Hydrological and drainage design, Structural Designs, Utilities relocation data, ESIA reports, Contract Documents, Technical Specifications, Road Safety Audit).
- Additional field investigations and amendments were made in consultation with the Client.
- Detailed engineering design for the market including; architectural drawings, structural design, field investigations (geotechnical, topographical, hydrological), bidding documents, Bills of quantities, ESIA, etc.
- Construction supervision of works to completion (Main Road, Town roads & Market);
Activities included; Monitoring contractor mobilization, approval of method statements & work programmes, verification of Contractor setting out, daily inspection and verification of works, quality control of works and materials, issuance of instructions and clarifications to the contractor, Client liaison, Measurement and certification of works, Financial & Physical progress monitoring and reporting, Cost Control, Assessment of Claims by Contractor, Overall Project & Contract management, Environmental, Social, Health & Safety monitoring and ensuring timely mitigation, Preparation of As-built drawings, Superintendence over the Defects Liability Period
