Project scope
The goal of the Kampala Revenue Improvement Project (KRIP) is to commercialize water sales in the Kampala Water Supply and Sewerage Area (KWSSA) and reduce physical losses in the distribution system as a preliminary step to Private Sector Participation (PSP) in the NWSC activities, with full PSP intended to be in place by the end of 2001.
The objectives of KRIP include but are not limited to:
- Improvement of billing efficiency for water and sewerage services
- Improvement of revenue collection efficiency
- Improvement in Commercial Areas and Bad Debt Recovery
- Improvement of water distribution operation and maintenance management and especially to reduce water losses due to bursts, leaks and wastage
- Construction of water stand pipes
- Expansion of the customer base to increase water supply coverage
- Establishment of a Management Information System (MIS) in the KWSSA
Technical and financial management of the day to day operations of the Water Utility (other than abstraction, treatment and primary pumping)
