Project description
Project scope

The Project Roads are located entirely along the newly constructed Fort portal-Lamia Road at four different locations. The existing roads covering a total length of 10 km were constructed to Class 1 bitumen standard with pavement layers of 150mm subgrade(G15), 150mm gravel subbase(G45), 150mm graded crushed stone base and double seal bitumen surfacing (very similar to the pavement thickness of the newly constructed Fort portal-Bundibugyo-Lamia Road. The existing roads envisaged for upgrading were generally narrow with existing gravel material (G15) surface partly washed out. It thus required widening with removal of unsuitable material and placing of approved material at roadbed preparation.

In the light of the available space and the geotechnical survey carried out on the existing road, the Typical Cross Section had to be modified on most road links for all packages to 5 metres carriage way of design pavement thickness with 1.2-meter side drains on either side and no shoulder
