Project scope

The Promotion of Private Training Providers Programme’s main objectives were to contribute to the reduction of unemployment and underemployment and thus to the reduction of poverty and to economic development in Uganda through the provision of demand-oriented and sustainable training of manpower through utilisation of private training capacities, which shall be extended and improved by the project measures.

The activities of the project included the development of suitable instruments for the selection of up to 30 capable and promising PTPs through questionnaires and guidelines, etc and the elaboration of development plans.
These include;

    • Construction works which would lead to improved and extended capacities for physical training, 
    • Procurement of technical tools and equipment, 
    • Improved training and instruction material and consultation services for the implementation of the project leading to improved training concepts orientated to the economic/social demand
    • Construction of VIP latrines, septic tanks and soak pits.

In addition, various accompanying measures have been included i.e., Aids awareness, management and instructor training, curriculum development towards modularisation and the development of income generating activities.

  • Preliminary physical inspection and survey of buildings and equipment at various PTP sites.
  • Inventory of rehabilitation and improvement requirements for buildings and equipment including a preliminary cost estimate
  • Detailed architectural, engineering and mechanical/electrical designs and cost estimate.
  • Preparation of prequalification documents for works contract and procurement of equipment and prequalification evaluation report.
  • Preparation of tender documents including drawings, specifications and bills of quantities for works construction and procurement of equipment.
  • Tendering evaluation and preparation of contract documents.
  • Supervision of works construction and installation of equipment including preparation of monthly site meeting minutes and progress reports.
  • Issuing of interim and final payment certificates.
  • Preparation of final construction report and as-built drawings.
